Wedding planning can be a hefty financial obligation for many families. So, what if the government could reduce this burden? The Punjab provincial government’s Dhee Rani Program, headed by the Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, is a new initiative created to provide benefits for the weddings of underprivileged girls across the province. This program is more than just a one-time monetary transfer; it’s a means of providing dignity, hope, and a fresh start for eligible couples.
This elaborate scheme emphasizes arranging mass weddings for thousands of deserving girls such that they receive a respectful, joyous start to married life. The program aims to reduce pressures on the families’ finances so that families can enjoy this life event without the concern of taking on debt.
Key Features
- Financial Aid: Each couple receives PKR 100,000 in cash as “salami” on an ATM card to assist them in beginning their new life.
- Wedding Gifts: In addition to the financial component, the couple receives a complete dowry package worth over PKR 200,000, including the necessary household items like a bed, mattress, mirror, and dinner set.
